EU ETS Innovation Fund – Call for Small-Scale Projects

The EU Commission has launched a first call for small-scale projects within the framework of the EU ETS Innovation Fund. The call specifically targets projects on low-carbon technologies and processes, with a capital expenditure of up to 7.5 million euro. The call is open until 10 March 2021.

The first call for small-scale projects (capital expenditure below 7.5 million euro) issued by the EU ETS Innovation Fund covers all eligible sectors, including environmentally safe carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), capture and geological storage of CO2 (CCS), alternatives for carbon-intensive products, as well as innovative renewable energy and energy storage technologies. The call focusses on innovative yet mature technologies that are ready to reach the market.

In total, this call sets aside 100 million euro for subsidies, besides other funds for project development assistance through the European Investment Bank. Grants will cover up to 60% of the capital expenditure. Both single companies and consortia can apply. The call does not only focus on companies that fall under the EU ETS, other companies can submit projects too. Deadline for the submission of proposals is 10 March 2021.
