The Flemish Government has launched a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the Flemish industry, ensuring its competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience in the face of global challenges. The plan, which focuses on innovation, decarbonization, circular economy, and talent development, aims to reinforce Flanders’ position as one of the world’s most innovative regions.

Among the key programs highlighted in this strategy are the Moonshot initiative and Catalisti, the innovation cluster for chemical and platics industry. Both programs play a crucial role in supporting industrial transformation, sustainable innovation, and knowledge valorization.

Continue to move industrial innovation forward

The Moonshot program is an ambitious industrial innovation initiative that focuses on developing breakthrough technologies for carbon-neutral products and processes. By fostering cutting-edge research and supporting the transition to carbon-neutral manufacturing, Moonshot helps ensure that Flemish industry remains future-proof.

As Flanders’ innovation cluster the chemical and plastics industry, Catalisti acts as a vital link between businesses, research institutions, and government. The cluster drives strategic projects in sustainable materials, chemical recycling, and low-carbon process innovations, accelerating the industry’s transition to climate neutrality and resource efficiency.

Shared commitment to a sustainable industrial future

The success of this integrated action plan depends on strong collaboration between industry, research institutions, and policymakers. By aligning efforts and resources, Flanders can continue to lead in sustainable and competitive industrial development.

“At Catalisti, we fully support this plan and are committed to facilitating innovation and fostering collaboration across the industry. Through strategic partnerships and groundbreaking research, we aim to help companies develop sustainable solutions that drive economic growth and environmental responsibility”, states Catalisti-director Tine Schaerlaekens.

About Moonshot Flanders

The Moonshot Flanders fosters collaboration between universities, research institutes and industry and is coordinated by Catalisti. With €20M in annual grants for 20 years, it funds industry-driven research to cut industrial CO2 emissions. Projects require strong industrial interest for funding. Companies engage via Advisory Boards, guiding research for industrial relevance, discovering innovations early, and thus shaping a more sustainable Flemish industry.

About Catalisti

Catalisti is the innovation cluster for chemical and plastics industry in Flanders, bringing together companies, research institutions, and government to accelerate innovation in sustainable chemistry and advanced materials. By initiating collaborative projects and supporting technology valorization, Catalisti helps shape a greener, more competitive industrial landscape in Flanders. Through open innovation projects with support from the Flemish government, we champion cooperation throughout the industrial value chain to facilitate industrial innovations.
