Join us for the inauguration of the SDR Pilot Plant. The aim of this project is to upscale the process concept of super-dry reforming (SDR) for CO2 conversion into CO, a chemical looping process. Super-dry reforming of (bio)methane is an intensified process for converting up to three CO2 molecules into CO per molecule of CH4.

Opening Event: SDR Pilot

Background of the Moonshot LSI Project SDR (HBC.2019.0140)

The aim of this project is to upscale the process concept of super-dry reforming (SDR) for CO2 conversion into CO, a chemical looping process. Super-dry reforming of (bio)methane is an intensified process for converting up to three CO2 molecules into CO per molecule of CH4.

One of the main challenges in the application and commercialisation of chemical looping processes such as SDR are the robustness and economic readiness of the oxygen carriers, critical for a profitable long-term operation under industrial conditions. There is a substantial uncertainty about the gap between lab-scale materials which exhibit excellent properties, and their industrially produced counterparts. This project therefore focuses on both the construction and operation of a demo-unit at pilot scale, based on a configuration with multiple reactors, and the production and evaluation of oxygen carriers at kg scale.
